Tromadance 2012 Video from Asbury Park

On May 4th and 5th, I attended the 2012 TromaDance Film Festival. As an indie videographer in NJ, this was an awesome event, especially since I used to love the Toxic Avenger as a kid (and still do).

For those who don’t know about the festival, Troma states:

TromaDance is the first film festival wholeheartedly devoted to filmmakers and fans. Unlike every other film festival, TromaDance does not charge filmmakers to submit their films. Entrance to all screenings is free and open to the public. Also, there are no VIP reservations or preferential treatment regarding films, panels, or parties of any kind given. The organizers of TromaDance believe films are meant to be seen, especially when it comes to new filmmakers. Art – in all its forms – is for the people!”

The movies are gory, vulgar, and totally indie. I loved it!

Lucky for all of you, I was able to pull out my iPhone and hit record when Troma’s owner, LLyod Kaufman, hosted the Saturday evening panel. The panel was made of James Gunn (Super, Dawn Of The Dead, Scooby Doo, Slither), Ti West (House Of The Dead, The InnKeepers, Cabin Fever 2), Roy Frumkes (Street Trash, The Substitute), Tony Timpone (Fangoria), and Katha Cota (Queens World Film Festival).  They gave their expert advice on how to make it in the film world, and I suggest you listen to their rags to riches stories. Enjoy!

Interview with Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington, and Tobby Kebbel

On Thursday, March 22nd, we were invited to a VIP screening on “Wrath Of The Titans courtesy of our friends at Shifted2u.com. The movie was pretty good, but the best part is on Friday, March 23, we were invited to a press conference with Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington, and Tobby Kebbel. They were awesome, and answered every question with humor  followed by honesty. Below are the live tweets with the answers to some of the questions asked. We will try to keep all of you guys posted for the next time we interview someone, so you can throw some questions to us, and also keep up with the live Twitter feed. Remember it is in reverse chronological order, and we accidentally wrote Robby Kebbel.

Look out for a review of the movie on Shifted2U.com

Here Comes The Neighborhood Webisode

Here Comes The Neighborhood is for all of you street artists out there. Wynwood Walls represents the ultimate collaboration of creatives, and how something with a negative history like graffiti can turn into an inspirational masterpiece. Below is the official description of the series (yes, series not just one single video!! AWESOME!!!!), but before that here is my favorite quote from the urban visionary who made it all possible… “You know at these times when money is scarce one must be that much more creative.” – Tony Goldman

HCTN EPISODE 1 : INTRODUCING THE WALLS from Here Comes the Neighborhood on Vimeo.

HERE COMES THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a Short-Form Docuseries exploring the power of Public Art and innovation to uplift and revitalize urban communities. The Pilot Season revolves around the Arts District of Wynwood Miami, featuring an array of internationally acclaimed and locally respected Street Artists, Graffiti Writers and Muralists.

In 2009, Urban Visionary and Placemaker Tony Goldman partnered with Jeffrey Deitch (Deitch Projects Soho and now director of MoCa Los Angeles) to create the Wynwood Walls. What began with a series of parking lots, loading docks, and drab rundown factory buildings, became a curation of high caliber murals from Futura, Shepard Fairey, OS Gemeos, Kenny Scharf and others. The Walls opened for Art Basel 2009, and now two years later the collection has expanded to include over thirty artists from around the world, becoming a “Town Center” in a district that has grown into one of the largest concentrations of commissioned murals in the World.

This year Artists, many of whom have not shown work in the United States before, were selected by Tony Goldman, Goldman Projects Arts Manager Meghan Coleman and Art Consultant Medvin Sobio of the Visual Arts Collective Viejas Del Mercado. 33third Los Angeles, Mid City Arts, and Montana Cans worked together to provide paint for the project’s ambitious expansion.

HERE COMES THE NEIGHBORHOOD explores a unique juncture in history as a new community emerges and evolves. A progressive urban revitalization campaign is examined in the first person, using this year’s new Artists and their commissions as a lens to explore a neighborhood in transition. The Series is framed by colorful overview and concluding episodes, providing the scope of past, present and future. Each episode is accented by images from legendary Documentary Photographer Martha Cooper, who has been capturing The Walls since they began in 2009. Her Photographs will also appear in a Special Edition Art Book “The Wynwood Walls and Doors” set to be released at Art
Basel 2011.

For more information on the artists and history of the Wynwood Walls visit thewynwoodwalls.com

Influencers And The Quest For Motivation

Lately I have been seeking inspiration anywhere I possibly can in order to get motivated. Mainly I blame the cold weather for the lack of wanting to anything besides sleep and watch movies, but I must surpass this frigid wall! So where do you go for inspiration? About a year ago I came across this short documentary entitled Influencers. This documentary helped me seek out who I thought would influence my next move and spark that fire to do something new and different again. Below is a run down about the movie, but before I leave you I highly suggest you take the time to truly think of who you admire and begin following their blogs, Twitters, and even go as far to try to become acquainted with them. What do you have to lose?

INFLUENCERS is a short documentary that explores what it means to be an influencer and how trends and creativity become contagious today in music, fashion and entertainment.

The film attempts to understand the essence of influence, what makes a person influential without taking a statistical or metric approach.

Written and Directed by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson, the film is a Polaroid snapshot of New York influential creatives (advertising, design, fashion and entertainment) who are shaping today’s pop culture.

Featuring: Deirdre Maloney (BPMW), Rob Stone (Cornerstone), Jon Cohen (Cornerstone), Jeff Staple (Staple Design), Josh Peskowitz (Fashion Editor), Dao-Yi Chow (Public School NYC),
David Gensler (The KDU), Sky Gellatly (Team Epiphany), Damon Crepin-Burr (FullSix NY).

“Scheming The Dream” A New Jersey Video

If you work in a restaurant then you are going to LOVE Scheming The Dream. Well, let us redefine that…if you work in an upscale, fine dining restaurant then you will probably be disgusted and annoyed at the characters in Scheming The Dream. However, if you work part time in a pizzeria, chain restaurant, or any place that is your “I just do this to have some money in my pocket” type facility, then welcome to Sally’s Joint.

Aiming for average, or just below, is key to working for Sally. Don’t stress the small, or big, or any size complication. At Sally’s Joint the customer is always right, but they are also idiots, jerks, cheap skates, and pawns. Taking place in Highlands, NJ, Scheming The Dream offers insight into the true Jersey Shore attitude, and not the fake tan and meathead type.

From the creative, delinquent minds of Moving Stills Films, we proudly present Scheming The Dream.

Here are some teasers and links to the creators:
