Yes, that is a bold statement, but there are several reasons why I believe Transworld Surf has one of the best blog posts I have seen in 2012. Besides being a surfer there are actual values I factored in as a digital marketer, so here is the run down.
1. The Title is “THE HOTTEST GIRLS IN PRO SURFING 2012 EDITION.” Right away I fairly know what I am going to see, which is either picture or video of gorgeous girl surfers or girls with sunburn. The words”2012 EDITION” leads me to believe there are more posts like it, so if I enjoy this one I can search for the other. Lists make great posts because if a reader disagrees they can dispute in the comments section.
2. The content is killer with video, photos, and images. The person who wrote the descriptions obviously surfs because they use technical terms and use name dropping without being egotistic. The written content also allows for a chance for SEO. The video is not self hosted so it will not slow down the site, and by using several other people’s videos they are not biased. My only problem with the images is I believe they should have been in a lightbox. Other than that one opinion, hot damn. I do not mind seeing good looking girls for twenty pages.
3. Yes, that last line said “twenty pages.” Instead of one long post, readers (or viewers) can click to see the next girl or skip by choosing a photo icon or number on the list. Look at the url and you will notice the last number change, which means a new page of content. This adds to SEO because the more useful content Google can crawl the better. This may not work with everyone’s site because if you notice the “Like”, “Tweet”, and “Pinterest” counts stay the same for each page, which means you are promoting the post not just the single page. Very clever Transworld.
4. Who is going to share this? Surfers. If Kelly Slater shares this it will instantly blow up the internet even though Transworld already does get an enormous amount of traffic. Guys. Whether you surf or not these girls are good looking. Surfing is also an interesting sport, so you might get hooked. The girls. Those girls will share that post on all of their social media outlets for bragging rights, and Transworld will reap all the benefits of free promotion. Also, links to the girls sites and social media networks are posted so they should return the favor. Transworld is a credible site that could help their pagerank.The companies. Sponsors will share their new starlett’s fame boasting she is part of their crew. The filmmaker. People who otherwise wouldn’t take notice may see how awesome their video skills are. If they host the video, then they reap the benefits in their views count and possibly traffic as well.
Just as a site overall I like the clean layout that doesn’t distract visitors from the content. There is only one thing on the side, and it connects visitors to other Transworld related outlets! I can’t go any further because I can go on about the share buttons and their placement, navigation bar and page names…. subscription form with free fins!
